The Bay Playhouse

The stage area, as set up for Act One of "Alice in Wonderland"
The Bay Theatre
Players are proud owners of a continually developing 96 seat theatre, wholly
owned and operated by the company. To commemorate the first decade of
operation the complex has recently been renamed The Bay
Playhouse.
The theatre was formally opened in 1998, culminating
decades of work and sweat by the group's members, who raised sufficient funds
over many years to purchase a rather rabbit-warren-like commercial building.
Aided by a council grant of about 20% of initial building costs, and with the input of
thousands of volunteer hours, it has been transformed it into a well equipped
high quality intimate theatre,
Patrons enter the theatre via an attractive garden
courtyard and foyer with entertainment facilities.
The theatre proper comprises a spacious, comfortable,
carpeted, air-conditioned tiered auditorium, opening directly on to a stage some 12m wide
and 6m deep. Lighting and sound are controlled from a rear bio-box, using
all the latest gear . An area for stage management and set preparation separates the
acting area from a large communal green room, which is easily converted to
dressing rooms, and the connecting costume hire shop, which also provides
overflow dressing room space.
A spacious external shed provides storage for props,
overflow costumes & junk.
The Theatre backs onto a natural bushland nature
reserve.
The place seems to be always humming with activity, and
is truly a Community Theatre, provided for the Community by members of the
Community.
